First, Doug considers himself a husband, father, and son. He’s been happily married to his wife for over 29 years, is the father of two adult children, and is delighted to still attend the occasional sporting event with his soon-to-be octogenarian father.
Second, Doug’s an educator. He left the field of journalism over three decades ago to pursue his teaching certification and has spent the past 25 years impacting the lives of students until recently retiring.
Third, Doug’s a leader. For 14 years, he served as his local teachers’ union’s president. He’s also served on the NEA and MEA’s Board of Directors and on the Executive Committee of the National Council of Urban Education Associations.
Finally, once a journalist always a journalist. Doug knew he wanted to be a sports writer that moment in 1980 when he realized he could no longer hit the curve ball. After spending over a decade in the field he moved into education, but the creative itch has always remained. Today that itch is scratched by blogging and podcasting.
